When asked if he could give his kids any advice, actor Robert De Niro responded:

“I’d just want them to be happy. To do what they really want to do and to follow through on the things they think they want to do, and follow through enough to see that you don’t want to do it. But not dream about it or be on the fence about it. Do it, and then at least make a decision, and then move on to something you might actually want to do for a good part of your life. That’s my advice.”

We’ve heard it said, “The second-best time to plant a tree is today.” Actually, that’s not quite true. The best time was when you could or should have planted the tree (done something), and the next best time was the day after that. And so on. But today is the best day to plant of the days you have left, so make today work. Consider:

• Do you have a dream you’re not pursuing? 
• Is there something you want to try, but have been hesitant?
• Are you unhappy in your job and want to explore the market? 
• Do you want to make a move within your organization? 
• Is there a difficult conversation you need to have? 
• Is there a new skill you want to learn? 

Or, more simply, is there an action that you could take – but haven’t – that you believe would make a meaningful, positive difference in your life? 

What, exactly, are you waiting for? It’s time to get going!
